Hefte Ranch D25(P) is a bull that David assessed as being one of the best he saw in the USA during the
World Congress tour. Semen was obtained from the Hefte Ranch. He offers a genetic outcross at Rosevale
and there is enough to suggest that he will have a long lasting impact in our herd. One son in USA U22(P)
has been retained as a sire. D25 is a good footed, sound bull who is particularly long bodied. His calves have
weighed heavy (typical of long bodied cattle) and this is depicted in his evolving EBVs.
When we first enter the performance data from new genetics into Breedplan we generally receive
‘understated’ EBVs until enough is known once there is a volume of data. If you look at last year’s catalogue
you will see now that D25’s EBV boxes have filled up a lot more and the weight EBV accuracies have risen
with data from a full drop of calves.
One feature is his extremely high Percent Normal Sperm EBV of +11.1%. The semen quality of D25’s sons is
very satisfying with many of them hitting the 90% normal mark.
With a low accuracy at this point, we expect his Days to Calving EBV to change with time. His heifers are
outstanding types but more importantly, all nine of them were PTIC as yearlings. This data has not been
submitted at this point. If D25’s Days to Calving EBV turns negative (as we expect it could) this will help his
breeding $Indexes no end - time will tell. We look forward to offering his first sons in this sale.
